Go MAD's Mission in Canta la Rana
Go MAD has been working in the beautiful barrio of Canta la Rana since January of 2017. This community sits right off of Highway 5 between Sabaneta and Cabarete and is located by the Rio Yasica. It is home to just over 150 lovely families. There are lots of farmers in this community so there are beautiful pastures and lots of day paid labor. The community leadership team is led by a wonderful man named Valerio and the community feels more like family than just neighbors.
One of our favorite projects in this barrio are our youth programs! Go MAD works alongside a wonderful group of youth leaders that host a weekly Young Life club and various small group Bible studies. The youth leaders work hard to plan activities and teach the amazing love of Christ to the community. We also have a kids' program with games, activities, and Bible studies.
There are lots of children in Canta la Rana that are not yet old enough to go to public school. Go MAD has a preschool in Canta la Rana that is directed by our lovely maestra, Elizabeth. She teaches children about the Bible and the building blocks of learning to help prepare them for their future in the education system.
The clinic rotates to Canta la Rana every Thursday and is open to the public for basic health care needs.
The Go MAD team works alongside the local community leadership team and the youth leaders to constantly dream about the future of Canta la Rana's residents. We have partnered with the community in projects improving sanitation, helping with local elections, and allow our building to be used as a community center for local events and church activities. In early 2021, we were proud to inaugurate the first ever basketball & volleyball court that is used daily to provide fun and safe activities for the youth of this community.
There is something so special about this community and their desire to partner with us in various projects. The community spirit is so strong and the leadership is incredibly supportive. They inspire us to dream and love our neighbors deeply on a daily basis.
