Nazareth House is a very special place. It is home to Sister Mercedes and her 15 children. Each of the children (aged 2-23) has a disability and has been abandoned or orphaned by their birth parents. In 2000 Sister Mercedes felt God calling her to open a home for children who had been abandoned and to love them fiercely, with the love of a mother. She works hard to share her love and the love of God with each child. She works hard to provide for their needs with love, dignity, care, and compassion.
Sister Mecerdes opened Nazareth house in 2000. The children do not leave the home when they turn 18, it is their HOME forever and they are a FAMILY! It does not run as an institution, but as a home full of love, where everyone is valued and cared for. The children have school in their home, and enjoy activities and games together.
In 2020, Go MAD was able to purchase the building for the family, meaning they no longer have to pay rent, and the home is theirs forever. This also meant renovations could begin, to adapt the home for the needs of it’s residents 😉
The home has several employees to help care for the children 24/7. Go MAD UK provides funds to pay staff salaries and some of the running costs of the home – we are in the process of applying for government funding from the Dominican government to help with the costs of the home, but we are always excited to hear from anyone who is able to help us financially support this beautiful family!
