Village Redemption

Go MAD's history in Village Redemption is nothing short of divine intervention. It all started when Bonnie started teaching English to three young girls that work on the streets of Sosua selling popcorn, avocados, mangos, and bananas. Before long, over 17 kids were walking 6km roundtrip on a weekly basis to join in on all the language-learning fun! This is when the Go MAD team knew there had to be an easier way. We sat down with the community leadership team and started exploring the ways that we could help this community achieve its goals. Just a few short months later, our English school opened up in the village, where over 100 students quickly signed up for English classes. Over the past two years, these friendships have grown and our involvement in the community has, too!

Village Redemption is located right outside of Sosua in a small barrio known as Loma Bajita. The river of Maranatha runs right through the middle of this community so it is prone to flooding in the rainy seasons. Go MAD works alongside the people within this community to meet needs and help in times of crisis. 

As in the other communities, our clinic rotates to this community once a week to help with basic healthcare needs. We have English classes that meet multiple times a week, providing the opportunity to obtain higher paying jobs that require speaking with tourists. The children in this community are brilliant, as most of them already speak two languages (Creole and Spanish). We work with mothers to make sure their babies have the proper documents they need to have a brighter future. The love and energy in this community is contagious!
